Calmer family life, built on understanding

Consultation for parents and carers, with particular experience of autistic and ADHD children. A Danish, relational approach. Online, or in person in East London on request.

Lars Roust, family consultant

I don't look for what's wrong with your child or your family. I look at what's happening in the nervous system, in the relationships, and in the stories being told. And I work with you to shift those.

Who I work with

I work with parents and carers. Children don't attend sessions: the work happens through the adults around them.

Parents feeling stuck with their child's behaviour and unsure how to move forward

Parents of autistic or ADHD children who want to understand behaviour, communication and emotional needs

Families where conflict or communication at home has broken down

Parents navigating school difficulties, adolescence or changes in family dynamics

Sessions in English, Danish and German.

My approach

anerkendelse

Danish, noun · recognition

Seeing, hearing and respecting what a child is experiencing, even when their behaviour is hard to be around. It sits at the centre of Scandinavian pedagogy, and of how I work.

01

Patterns, not problems

Difficulties live in relationships and context, not inside your child.

02

Recognition comes first

Responding to what is going on for your child, not only to the behaviour in front of you.

03

Regulation starts with you

A child's nervous system settles in relation to a settled adult.

More about my approach

For a decade I worked in Danish milieu therapy, where the everyday relational environment, not the weekly session, is the treatment.

Narrative and solution-focused approaches help families notice what is already working. ACT and compassion-focused work support the flexibility that makes change last.

Questions

Does my child attend?

No. Sessions are for parents and carers. The work happens through the adults around your child.

Is this therapy?

Yes. It's therapeutic work with parents. Together we work on reducing stress at home and building predictability and consistency for your child. Change comes from doing something different, so between sessions you try out what we agree. I don't work directly with children. If our work moves into areas outside what I offer, I'll talk this through with you and help you find the right service.

Online or in person?

Online across the UK. Home visits in East London are available on request, with a £25 supplement.

Do you diagnose autism or ADHD?

No. I don't assess or diagnose. I work with families whether or not there is a diagnosis, and we can talk through routes to assessment if that would help.
